Willaston Hotel
Originally built in 1866 as the Victoria Hotel, this pub traded
under that name until as recently as 1970. But there was a Willaston
Hotel, built much earlier (1849) which was delicensed in1919 and
still stands as an old house building on the other side of the main
street close to the Willaston bridge.
The present Willaston Hotel was the scene of the official opening
of the Grand Order of Odd fellows' Loyal Victoria Lodge in 1867.
In recent years the verandah has been rebuilt after being
demolished by a runaway car and the lounge bar and off-license areas
have had major facelifts and extensions.
Gawler Historic Buildings
Gawler has a wealth of historic buildings, many founded on the
wealth brought back to the town by inhabitants returning from the
Victorian Gold Fields, in the mid 1800s. Visit the
Gawler Historic Buildings site for a list of buildings.
